Her curious brother is willing to learn about her hearing aid and her daily challenges

When Phoebe was 7 months old, as well as when she turned 1 year old, our family travelled to Japan and saw a specialist, Dr. Yotsuyanagi (https://web.sapmed.ac.jp/prs/shojisho/) who is known to have performed the most surgical cases in Japan.  It just happens my mommy is from Sapporo where this doctor works.  We also had a privilege to try Japanese invention--cartilage bone conduction hearing aid.  Very different from what I use now.

What we learned so far are:

  1. - Phoebe needs hearing aid for life

  2. - Phoebe will decide whether she wants to reconstruct her outer ear (plastic surgery) when she is old enough to make her own decisions
